I might be crazy

Meet the newest member of our family (although she might just be visiting).

We got her last Thursday night. The kids really like her except for when she is biting them or knocking them down.

Oh sure, she looks sweet and innocent! But what she really wants to be doing right now is chewing on soft plastic toys that happen to be nearby, or chasing down one of my children and jumping up and hanging from their shirts by her teeth!

She also loves to crawl under tight spaces, run into just about anything, chew on Ella's dress up dresses and barbie dolls, chew on Alex's pacifier, chew the carpet, chew blankets, chew stuffed animals..., eat scraps off the kitchen floor (Alex's high chair is a gold mine!), lick bottles and juice cups, and fall asleep at the drop of a hat. She'll actually let the kids cover her in blankets and kiss and pet her when she's that tired.

For some reason the kids keep coming back for more. On Sunday, after a particularly painful nip, Ella stopped crying with concern for the dog who had been quarantined. "She's having a time out." I told her.

"But she says she wants to come out!" she said through the tears. Ella also frequently says, "She's just so beautiful."

Actually, she's come a long way in the past 3 days. She doesn't tackle Alex quite as much and is definitely restraining herself with nipping at the kids. She is mostly potty trained and crate trained. I wish I could train my kids that fast! Potty trained at 8 weeks would be great! It will take some time for the kids to learn not to prod her with their toys or leave clothes laying on the floor, or try to play tag without getting eaten alive at the end. Who knows? Maybe they'll learn some responsibility out of all this. But one thing's for sure, 3 days ago, this would not have been possible! Such a good girl!

Oh, one more thing. Several names were tossed about these past days. Some that topped the charts were Belle & Sophie (both names of close relatives), Sandy, Penny, Sadie, and Glowy. The final name that everyone could agree on was Taffy. My favorite part about Taffy (no it's not taking her out 10 times a day or keeping her out of trouble constantly)... it's being able to pet and snuggle her without having any sign of an allergic reaction. It's way too cool! Welcome home Taffy! I hope we all survive your puppyhood!

For all your talk of chewing, there's not one photo of her chowing down on something. Maybe it is all talk...

Our dog seems to have an affinity for chewing things, too. Mainly shoes and pencils so far. And mainly in the middle of the night, when he wakes up ready to play and can't rouse any of us. We are trying to pick up better in the evening and need to get him some of his own toys, too. But so far his sweetness outweighs the bad habits...
